Transnational Project Meeting in Lyon

On June 2nd and 3rd, 2025, the Math4Sustainability consortium gathered at Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 in France for our first transnational project meeting.

Over the past few months, we’ve been actively brainstorming and proposing exhibition ideas aligned with the objectives of our project: promoting sustainable behaviour, demonstrating the role of mathematics in understanding and addressing sustainability challenges, and encouraging students to become active, engaged citizens.

The primary goal of our meeting was to select which proposals will be developed into full exhibitions. We’re excited to announce that four exhibitions have been chosen for development as part of our first collection under Work Package 2. These exhibits will explore topics such as the circular economy, carbon footprint, animal populations, and sustainability policies. In the coming months, our partners will be working hard to develop prototypes, with a target completion date of October 2025.

In parallel, brainstorming has already begun for our second exhibition collection, which will feature pop-up exhibits designed for easy integration into classroom settings. Decisions on this next phase will be made in the months ahead.

To wrap up our meeting, some members of the team visited the Maison des Mathématiques et de l’Informatique (MMI) and explored the current exhibition, Dans ma Cuisine. While the theme was not directly related to our project, the creativity and design of the exhibition were a source of great inspiration.
